It's the NHS's birthday on Tuesday 5th July, marking 74 years of universal, free healthcare! It's time to celebrate the founding values of our NHS - putting our communities and patients first - which shine through in the work of our doctors, nurses and health workers every day.
However, this week new research has shown that privatisation in our NHS has been linked to an increase in preventable deaths since the 2012 Health and Social Care Act. Now that the latest Health and Care Act has come into law, re-organising the NHS again into new 'Integrated Care Systems', it's up to us to make sure that health leaders take this as an opportunity to put our lives before profits.
You can take action this Monday 4th July, the day before the NHS' birthday, by joining local We Own It supporters in delivering a 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY NHS' card to your new local NHS leaders.
One big birthday card collating messages from people across your region will be delivered in each area, so you don't need to bring anything except friends and family to send an important message: the best way to celebrate our NHS is for local ICS chairs to put the health of our communities before profit by banning private companies from sitting on their decision-making boards!

Disgraceful privatisation by the back door at the cost of patients lives and hospital staff who go above and beyond to care for us, often risking and/or losing their lives. As an ex Domiciliary Care Manager I applaud you all for all you do as I know a little of how hard it is. Please try to enjoy the day and always be proud to work in caring for people. I worked in the NHS all my working life and saw it eroded by government after government, with new policies and structures. Privatisation has ruined this wonderful and precious service, from top to bottom across all levels of service. Stop this now!!

The private sector have been involved for meany years and have never done any good for the people, I’ve seen first hand wards shutting, private sector using NHS wards and equipment with no returns coming back and doctors taking private patients over NHS on meany occasions. This all needs stopping, should have been stopped years ago.

I was 10 years old when our, absolutely transformative, Labour Government created the National Health Service, Not only that, but we also got an outstanding 'Corporation House' as part of this unbelievable 'Cradle to Grave' people's new dawn. So... despite having lived my early life in Healthe and Housing poverty the SUPER (1945) Labour Government's commitment to bring 'Health, Happiness, and Prosperity, within the reach of ordinary people (who won the peace and provided all the nations wealth) was indeed the 'stuff of dreams'.
These wonderful 'Socialist' men and women were able to see the future and they knew that we had to create a Country, in which every man woman and child would be strong and healthy. This philosophy, of developing and using all of our Country's human talents, were.. and remain, absolutely essential, if we are to stand any chance of maintaining a healthy and intellectually empowered people, who are able to continue to create and maintain a modern, kind and caring society.

When the NHS was setup the working class both ordinary and extraordinary British people had been through two wars, they new just how badly the rich and powerful had treated them and they saw the light and demanded a more equal and fairer society. I while growing up in extreme poverty (by todays standards)
still bnefited by having free: doctors, dentists. and more. Mrs Thatcher allowed a culture of greed to grow, this now invites greed from abroad as if we didn't have enough of our own. We ought to learn from history!
