Don't sell off our national treasures
The government is carrying out the biggest privatisation ever, but our polling shows the British public are against it. If no one stops them we'll lose national treasures and vital public services forever. We know that they want to sell off the rest of RBS, Lloyds, National Air Traffic Services and the student loan book. Land Registry privatisation plans seem to have been shelved for the moment but Channel 4 could still be privatised. The government is looking at introducing private sector capital into Ordnance Survey. The Met Office and the Royal Mint are not in direct danger but they are part of UK Government Investments (created to sell off public assets) and have been threatened with privatisation before. Most of our national treasures make millions every year for the public purse, and they all help to keep the country running (click on the names below for more information). This is short term madness, not a long term economic plan.
