Government announces Eurostar sell-off - our response on Radio 4

Eurostar train

11 March 2015

Last week the British government announced that it was selling the country's 40% stake in the Eurostar project to Patina Rail. The company, which was registered just last month in London, is buying the share for £757 million.

As a front for British and Canadian investment funds, Patina Rail has no prior experience overseeing rail services. Passengers and rail staff have an enormous stake in determining the future of Eurostar, but they were not consulted over the sell-off. Hundreds of thousands of people were simply ignored, their voice snuffed out by high-level corporate interests. If you think this isn't right, then please take action.

Cat Hobbs, Director of We Own It, discusses the government's plan to sell of its stake in Eurostar on the BBC Radio 4 PM programme broadcast on 4 March 2015.
