Following the recent unprecedented takeover of 49 NHS GP practices in London by Centene Corporation, We Own It and 22 other organisations representing doctors, pensioners, housing advocates, public service users and NHS patients have launched the London Patient Protection Pledge.
If you're a London Assembly or Mayoral candidate, please read and take the pledge.
Centene Corporation is a US health insurance company with a track record of bad practices. This includes being found guilty of “systematically” underpaying doctors and depriving patients they sold health insurance to access to doctors and health centres.
Studies show that GP practices run by private firms are worse for patients than those run by traditional GP partnerships. Patients express higher levels of satisfaction with GP practices that are not run for profit.
Centene’s track record suggests that profits will come before patients in their operations in London. This means that the quality of care that patients receive will suffer and London’s health inequalities could deepen even further.
Here are the candidates that have taken the pledge. Ask Assembly and Mayoral candidates not on the list to take the pledge today.

Introducing profit into the equation skews the relationship with patients & employees. It is fundamentally incompatible with service provision in the public sector.

People before profit. Always, everywhere, without qualification, let or hindrance. No ifs, no buts. An absolute imperative.
To hell with the Tories and the pathetic, traitorous useful idiots who voted for them in the last election.
We have a callous, mendacious buffoon as our Prime Minister, when we could have had a politician of rare integrity and principle.
