16 organisations call for NHS Bill to be halted

11 May 2021

Joint statement on Health and Care Bill in Queens Speech and Feb 2021 Government White Paper: Integration and innovation: working together to improve health and social care for all

We call on the Government to halt the rollout of Integrated Care Systems (ICSs) in the English NHS, and the further changes set out in the February 2021 White Paper and NHSE proposals for reform of the payment system.

The proposals represent a major reorganisation of the NHS, with far-reaching consequences for patients and staff including:

  • Increased scope for privatisation and deregulation of the market
  • Private companies potentially represented on ICS boards and at the heart of NHS management
  • Lack of transparency, reduced accountability to local authorities and loss of voice for local communities
  • Unexplored implications for social care
  • Major potential impacts on staff, including loss of nationally agreed pay, terms and conditions; flexible working across locations and job roles; and professional deregulation
  • Reduced access to face-to-face appointments and increased reliance on digital apps
  • Confidential patient data – which has huge commercial value and potential for future misuse - in the hands of multinational corporates

We demand an extended and meaningful consultation with the public, NHS staff and unions, and Parliament, to decide how health and social care services should be provided in England.

People have shaken their heads watching people dying on the steps of hospitals in India because they cannot afford the entry fee! Yet those same people are watching the very same profit first system introduced here in the UK. It beggars belief.

It breaks my heart to see voters tricked in to voting Tory. Their promises are demonstrably only there to fool people in to voting for them. Just ask the DUP.

Do not make decisions about us, without us. Keep our NHS public.

Whenever privatization of services are mentioned the USA is brought out as a model. Please look at other countries in Europe and see how private and public enterprise can work together. Neither is perfect neither is the devil both have good things to offer.

Public apathy will allow the slow creep of privatisation into the NHS.These "Reforms' have been going on now for some considerable time and I've found that trying to get some kind of dialogue going on the subject with the people around me is mostly met with a shrug of the shoulders, some sympathy and "well, they'll do it anyway so what's the point"?

We are already paying for certain treatments that used to be given under the NHS, such as ear wax clearing; if you have a problem with blocked ears, causing itching, discomfort, and even pain, as well the obvious hearing difficulty, you now have to pay at least £55 and possibly more, for a private company to treat you. Companies such as Specsavers now see patients to clean out their ears for them, and they charge for the service.

As ear wax build-up is a perennial problem, the costs remain on-going, at quite a cost to the individual, and at a nice rate for those companies able to provide the service!

This is yet another sell out by the Tories. Who will profit? Yes the Tory party Donors that pump a few thousand into the party, take select ministers out for meals and then pay a pittance for a slice of the NHS in the knowledge that when they get the ICS through Parliament they will be rolling in the money from insurance payouts. Well that is until those on benefits of in the working to lower middle class can't afford the insurance premiums or treatment fees.

Then again at that point they will make their money by treating the rich and watch the poor drop dead in the streets, just like in many other Third World Nations
