30 years ago today, buses were deregulated and privatised. It's time to bring them into public ownership - here are your reasons why:
"London's buses are brilliant for travelling with small children - safe, reliable and so much to look at! Everywhere should have powers to make their buses as good as London's - or even better by making them fully publicly owned."
Fran
"We know there must be something wrong with privately run bus services when it becomes more cost effective for people to drive everywhere instead of taking the bus."
Biba Maya
"I like good buses that support community - that's why I am in favour of scrapping clause 21 l, and giving local councils the option of resourcing publicly owned bus companies!"
Max
"I had surgery for a brain tumour 20 years ago and have not been able to drive since - buses mean the world to me!"
Elaine
"I love buses. If I could I'd walk everywhere.. but then they'd privatise the pavement..."
Mollie
"Bus deregulation lets companies charge people crazy fares, just to make their essential and everyday journeys."
Fiona
"This is me waiting at a bus stop in Oxford - I need public transport to get around Oxfordshire sustainably for my job. I'm frowning as I just wish they were cheaper and more frequent! There are too many private companies competing and the ticketing is so confusing!"
Alice
"Public transport should be run to increase access not profit."
Peter
"Profit is being put before people which means journeys are made shorter, you have to take more buses to get to your destination and it becomes too expensive."
Emma
"Tyne and Wear Public Transport Users Group seek the full integration of all public transport beginning with bus services. We believe that can only be achieved through re-regulation which will come through municipal ownership."
Vicki, Shirley, Paul
"Buses should be a public service, not a business where profits are put before the best interests of the communities they are supposed to serve."
Sukyella
"I support PUBLIC transport which serves everyone's travel needs. We need a service which encourages people to choose options that reduce their impact on climate change and not one that is literally driven by a profit motive. Public bus ownership would work for people and planet!"
Mel, on the bus from Leicester to Lutterworth this morning :-)
"People need buses in rural areas but they keep getting cut. Public ownership of a bus network means profitable routes can subsidise quieter services in the countryside that people need but which don't make money."

Sorry no selfie but I am one of the lucky people as I live in Nottingham with one of the best public transport systems in the country run by Nottingham City, and I think the government is crackers not allowing other cities to have their own integrated system.
