19 November 2021
At 10am on Monday 22nd November, We Own It will be coming together with Keep Our NHS Public, Just Treatment, and YOUR NHS Needs You to hand over petitions demonstrating mass opposition to the government's Health and Care Bill.
250,000 signatures calling for the Health and Care Bill to be scrapped will be delivered to Boris Johnson at 10 Downing Street, ahead of MPs voting on the Bill on Tuesday 23rd. Recent polling has found that 72% of the public are worried this legislation will mean more NHS privatisation - including 70% of Conservative voters.
This will be followed by a rally at 5pm, Richmond Terrace, with NHS staff and patients coming together to oppose the Bill. Unite the Union, Keep Our NHS Public, YOUR NHS Needs You and more will be joining forces to call for MPs to reject the plans to embed more privatisation in the NHS.
If MPs pass the Bill, they will be voting to:
-
Open the door to more cronyism - yet more contracts would be given to government pals like Serco, as we’ve seen in the pandemic, but without any competition - that’s what the government means by ‘reducing bureaucracy'.
-
Allow private companies like Virgin Care to sit on NHS Boards that make decisions about how to spend NHS money.
-
Introduce the American model into our NHS where unaccountable decision-making bodies prioritise profit margins and making savings over caring for people's health. This model is likely to lead to cuts and closures of NHS hospitals and A&E.
-
Push more people to go private as cuts are made. Patients have already been promised greater rights to choose private treatment and have it paid for by the NHS.
-
Encourage private companies to take the NHS to court if they’re unhappy.
Get involved!

We feel strongly about the NHS and the values of free healthcare for all. Don’t destroy what most British people hold dear..

Essential services should be for the users, not for private profit
